Objectives: During this course the learner will acquire the necessary language skills and vocabulary to successfully understand oral and written messages of an intermediate complexity in English used in the car industry. This course provides opportunities for the learner to respond professionally to the language used in familiar situations. The learner will be exposed to different situations that occur in the car industry, such as; interacting with car salespeople, automotive repairs in a mechanic shop, as well as the design and construction of a car. The learner will have many opportunities to respond professionally with the correct vocabulary in these situations. The learner will also participate in dialogues, responding in both written and spoken form, that will build their confidence in using their newly formed knowledge. The course content is functional and focused entirely on improving learner independence in the automobile field. The use of a variety of exercises encompasses different learner styles as well as guaranteeing thorough coverage of the topics.

 Car industry vocabulary – Car parts I

In this first of two lessons, students will be introduced to the essential parts of a car where the learner is encouraged to practice pronunciation from the very beginning. They will view content in a series of interactive exercises to promote vocabulary learning and understanding, and for reference, students will have access to vocabulary definitions which are then further reinforced by sentences showing common word usage in a sentence. To enhance vocabulary knowledge, exercises through various methods such as multiple choice and fill in the blank are used to confirm understanding.

 Car industry vocabulary – Car parts II

In this second of two lessons, the student will continue being introduced to vocabulary, specifically the parts of a car and parts of an engine which are presented through interactive methods.  As before, student will have access to definitions and be able to see how they are used in sentences. Students will also respond to exercises to confirm understanding of these additional vocabulary words.

 Typical situation – At the car dealership

In this lesson the student will practice their understanding and comprehension by listening and following along with a typical situation in a real life situation. We will be listening to two people interact with a car salesperson as they look for the perfect car.

 Dialogue – Car components

In this lesson the student will work their freeform speaking by answering questions related to car components and general vocabulary usage from the course.

 Car industry vocabulary – Car features I

In this first of two lessons, students will be introduced to the essential features of a car where the learner is encouraged to practice pronunciation from the very beginning. In this lesson the student will practice their understanding and comprehension by listening and following along with a typical situation in a real life situation. We will be listening to two mechanics trying to find solutions to someone’s car problems.

In this lesson the student will work their freeform speaking by answering questions related to driving and general vocabulary usage from the course.

 Car industry vocabulary – Car accessories I

In this first of two lessons, students will be introduced to the essential car accessories and equipment where the learner is encouraged to practice pronunciation from the very beginning. They will view content in a series of interactive exercises to promote vocabulary learning and understanding, and for reference, students will have access to vocabulary definitions which are then further reinforced by sentences showing common word usage in a sentence. To enhance vocabulary knowledge, exercises through various methods such as multiple choice and fill in the blank are used to confirm understanding.

 Car industry vocabulary – Car accessories II

In this second of two lessons, the student will continue being introduced to vocabulary of car accessories and different types of vehicle capabilities which are presented through interactive methods.  As before, the student will have access to definitions and be able to see how they are used in sentences. Students will also respond to exercises to confirm understanding of these additional vocabulary words.

 Typical situation – Designing a new car

In this lesson the student will practice their understanding and comprehension by listening and following along with a typical situation in a real life situation. We will be listening to two mechanics trying to find solutions to someone´s car problems.

 Dialogue – Driving problems

In this lesson the student will work their freeform speaking by answering questions related to driving problems and general vocabulary usage from the course.

 

 Consolidation

This activity will further reinforce vocabulary understanding. Students will review all vocabulary from the course in a series of interactive exercises. This will test vocabulary comprehension and enhance vocabulary usage.
